An air-cooled, belt-fed, blowback operated, fully automatic 40mm grenade machine gun that can be mounted on vehicles or a tripod. It fires a range of 40mm high-velocity grenades from disintegrating metallic link belts.

    Area Suppression

    Delivers continuous 40mm fire at short and long range against dismounted infantry in the open, in defilade or in entrenched fighting positions.

    Light Armor Defeat

    HEDP grenades are rated to penetrate 75mm of rolled homogenous armor, enough for most infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers, according to US Ordnance.

    Vehicle Mounting

    Low recoil and light weight have let the gun be fitted to small attack boats, HMMWV, AAV and Stryker vehicles and naval mounts, as well as ground tripods.

    Riverine Origins

    The MK19 was first developed to give the U.S. Navy an effective riverine patrol weapon in Vietnam, and a late-1970s improvement program produced the MOD 3.
