Losing hearing protection to gain situational awareness, or the reverse, is the tradeoff the ComTac VIII eliminates for the operators 2ATG trains alongside. It actively suppresses impulse and steady-state noise from gunfire and blasts while its Mission Audio Profiles amplify ambient sound so operators still hear a radio call or a teammate's voice in a loud environment, with a noise-cancelling mic keeping transmissions clear on the other end.

    Hearing Protection

    The ComTac VIII helps protect hearing from impulse and steady state noise, and 3M states it meets the DA Pam 40-501 single hearing protection requirement for both.

    Situational Awareness

    Environmental listening amplifies surrounding sound, with Mission Audio Profiles (Observation, Patrolling, Conversation, Comfort) to tune audibility to the acoustic environment.

    Radio Communications

    Comms versions connect to a radio through a push-to-talk downlead and use a noise-cancelling IP68 microphone, while Soundscaping helps radio speech intelligibility in noise.
